End of season on the Laxa in Kjos

End of season on the Laxa in Kjos

The 2018 season is over and we start to think about the next one. Kjos anglers experienced fantastic fishing the last week, with about 100 salmon caught. We have not seen figures like that since July, but high water and good condition made the last days memorable. Some big sea trout were caught as well, fish between 80-85 cm. Final 2018 numbers from Kjos will be over 1.050 salmon for the short season, fished by 4-8 rods.
We would like to thank all of our guests this year, and just a quick reminder that we have started to book days for the 2019 season.

Laxa in Dolum - end of season report

Laxa in Dolum - end of season report

Laxa in Dolum - end of season report.

We enjoyed another good year on this fantastic river. Total catch was over 1200 salmon for 4-6 rods and puts Dolum amongst the best rivers to be found in terms of salmon caught per rod. But it was a strange season, as the salmon arrived very early.

As a result, the 4 rods that fished the month of July had unbelievable fishing, catching up to 153 salmon in 3 days! The Dolum is known to be a late summer river, and August is usually the time for figures like that. But not this year, as the main run arrived early, and the usual August runs had already arrived. August still produced a fantastic sport, and so did September when we had heavy rain again. We saw some really good size fish, and large salmon up to 26lbs were caught.

So the saga of this little river on the west coast of Iceland continues, from being an overfished river where most fish were knocked on the head - to be one of the finest fly-fishing rivers to be found worldwide.

Laxa in Dolum over 900 salmon

Laxa in Dolum over 900 salmon

Last week finally saw some rain on the Laxa in Dolum. After dry month of August, the river went up last week and fishing improved. We still have 3 weeks of fishing to come and the river is at 930 salmon. It is very likely that we will go over the average (1100) on the Dolum. That is amazing fishing for only 4-6 rods.

News from Svalbardsa

News from Svalbardsa

Despite rather slow fishing on the north/east corner of Iceland our little Svalbardsa has done well. We are over 300 salmon for the 2-3 rods so far. As usual, we see some big ones and this autumn is no exception.

Laxa in Kjos having a very good season

The Kjos is having a very good year. The week 4th-11th of July produced 165 salmon caught on 8 rods, and the week 11th-18th July is adding another 130 salmon or so. Water is still high, but the upper river has really kicked in. Sea-trout up to 85cm being landed. Best day of the season so far was July 18th, when we landed 54 salmon to 7 rods fishing.

Laxa in Dolum is on fire!

There are very good runs at the moment into Laxa in Dolum. The group that started fishing in the afternoon of July 21st landed 33 salmon on 4 rods in the afernoon. After the three first sessions, a day and a half they had landed 71 salmon. For 4 rods?

We have started!

Author Haraldur Eiríksson

We have started!

We are off to a great start.

Opening days on Laxa in Kjos gave us 36 salmon landed to only 5 rods. The river is in high water but we are still using small flies in sizes 12-14. As a result we are loosing a lot of salmon, but they simply refuse larger flies or tubes.

Grimsa opened on June 20th with 20 salmon the first day for the 6 rods.

On both rivers we have grilse runs in allready, but larger springers amongst the runs. It is specially good to see large salmon in the 6-8 kg range. They are the strongest of all fish. Prospects are good, and we are supposed to have more rain in the coming days.

Laxa in Dolum lease agreement extended

Laxa in Dolum lease agreement extended

We are very proud to announce that our lease on the famous Laxa in Dolum has been extended for the years to come.

There has been movement on the market this winter, and rivers have been changing hands. We are therefore very grateful to keep this fantastic river inside our portfolio, as well to be able to continue our work. The last three years have been very good, with average catch of about 1.400 salmon for 4-6 rods in 90 days. There are not many places where you can enjoy that kind of sport in the world of Atlantic salmon fishing today.

Long may it continue.
