End of season.....

It is end of the season here in Iceland, and we have already begun to plan the next one. Laxa in Dolum ended up with around 860 salmon caught to the 4-6 rods. This little river on the west coast has proven to be a true gem, and is producing good numbers of large salmon in the 85-100 cm range. It looks like there is a large number of fish to spawn like the previous two years, and we really look forward to the years to come. Grimsa had a good year. Unconfirmed catch for 2017 season is 1.290 salmon, which is average total for the last 30 years. However, it is a huge rise from last years disappointment. The tiny tributary Tungua, the most important spawning grounds for the Grimsa, was full of salmon in the end. That is always a good sign. Laxa in Kjos had a strange season. June and July were very good, but August disappointing as there was a lack of rain for 5 weeks running. September provided great sport once again. It looks like Laxa´s final catch is about 850 salmon this year, along with a good number of fantastic sea-trout, 4-16 pounds! Svalbardsa did well despite most of the north/east corner having a bad year. 340 salmon for 2-3 rods in the short season is a good number by any standard. Best pools on Dolum 2016

Confirmed total catch from Laxa in Dolum is 1.717 salmon. Best pool on the river in 2016 was Home pool (15) with 261 salmon landed. Silent pool (7) produced 227 salmon. Hofðafljot (24) produced 167 salmon, Höskuldsstaðastrengur (11) 96 salmon and Donustadagrjot (26) 85 salmon. Many pools had 60-80 salmon landed, and fish was well spread through the system. The only dry spell we had was late august, beginning of September. This affected the catch numbers for two weeks, but numbers of salmon in the river still made sure that all partys had fantastic fishing. Average weight was higher than for many years, and we belive this will be the case in the future.
